Unikey supports vietnamese typing on Windows (including 32-bit and 64-bit Windows). With unikey, you can easily convert fonts, define shortcuts for phrases, convert words with accent marks, convert to uppercase or lowercase letters. X-Unikey
X-Unikey is Unikey ported to Linux and FreeBSD. X-Unikey lets you type Vietnamese in X Window environment. It has been tested with many popular programs, such as OpenOffice, emacs, vim, QT applications, GTK applications… X-Unikey has all the features of the Windows version, except that its GUI is still too simplified. All options are set through configuration file or keyboard shortcuts.

Dù chúng ta có thích hay không, tất cả các máy mới sau nầy đều được preinstalled với Windows 8 OS. Win 8 sẽ dần thông dụng trong tương lai. Đó là lý do đàn em viết bài nầy. Bỏ thêm Vietmamese keyboard vào Windows 8 hơi khác với các MS OS cũ (win 7, XP...), nhưng cách gõ chữ Việt không có gì khác biệt vì vietnamese keyboard layout vẫn không có gì thay đổi.
Whether we like or not, all the laterly new computers have been preinstalled with Windows 8 OS. Win 8 will be gradudally popular in future. Telling you a quick way how to type Vietnamese in Windows 8 by no need download any typing sofware. Installing Vietmamese keyboard in Windows 8 is slightly different with the older MS OS (win 7, XP ...), but way of typing Vietnamese does not have any difference because MS Vietnamese keyboard layout (MS: abbreviation of Microsoft) is nothing changes.
A. Cách thức đều chỉnh MS Vietnamese keyboard vào Windows 8:
- Nhấn hai keys Win+C, sẽ thấy giống hình bên dưới.

A. How to install MS Vietnames keyboard in Windows 8:
- Press two keys Windows+C, (key Windows have a logo of Microsoft, in between CTRL key and ALT key) will see a picture as below.
- Click Settings icon.
- Click Control Panel
- Click Change input methods trong phần / in section: Clock, Language, and Region
- Click Options
- Click Add an input method dưới chữ / under word US
- Double click Vietnamese Touch keyboard layout
*Vietnamese keyboard đã được added / MS Vietnamese keyboard will be added.
- Click Save Tab.
- Chúng ta có thể nhấn 2 keys Win+ Space bar để hoán chuyển giữa English & Vietnamese keyboard.

B. Cách gõ tiếng Việt khi dùng MS Vietnamese keyboard
- Hình bên dưới là cách layout cho MS Vietnamese keyboard ( 12 keys)
- Phải xài Number Lock.
- Khi đánh số 1,2,3... nhấn số bên phải vì số phía trên Keyboard đã thay thế bằng những ký tự Việt Nam:

2=â
3=ê
4=ô
5= dấu Huyền
6= dấu Hỏi
7= dấu Ngã
8= dấu Sắc
9= dấu Nặng
0=đ
[= ư
]=ơ

B. How to type Vietnamese by MS Vietnamese keyboard
- The figure below is the layout for MS Vietnamese keyboard (12 keys).
- Must use Number Lock. (pressing Number Lock key to “On” mode, light is on).
- When numbers 1,2,3 ... are required, press the number keys on the right side because the number keys on top of keyboard are replaced with Vietnamese characters:

1= ă
2=â
3=ê
4=ô
5= dấu Huyền (grave accent)
6= dấu Hỏi (question accent)
7= dấu Ngã (tilde accent)
8= dấu Sắc (acute accent)
9= dấu Nặng (dot accent, heavy accent)
0=đ
[= ư
]=ơ
When you are familiar, you will type Vietnamese a lot faster.

If using other typing methods ( VNI, Telex) type Vietnamese is longer:
